BURGMAN 400
Concept
It fits well, like a fine handmade suit. It rides comfortably and performs like a champion. It manoeuvres brilliantly. And it delivers a winning combination of stylish design, practicality and convenience.
The BURGMAN 400 - bringing greater class and pleasure to your journey
Svelte sophistication
Like a top athlete in peak form, the BURGMAN 400 is lean, toned and ready to perform optimally, even on narrow, twisty, or congested streets. Not only are its front and rear end slim, sharpe and sexy, this BURGMAN remains true to its family name by offering fine style that will turn as many heads out front of the office as it will in front of your favourite café or out on the road.
New Coloring
A matte finish, known for the cool and modern look it creates, was chosen for the BURGMAN 400’s new “Metallic Matte Sword Silver” color. It has the high-quality, metallic appearance of a sword or blade, and further accentuates the BURGMAN 400’s sporty and elegant looks.
Elegant and efficient LED headlight design
The nose features sharply styled dual LED headlights with integrated LED position lights and turn signals mounted beneath. The lightweight, clean-looking front end is instantly recognizable as belonging to the BURGMAN family.
LED rear combination lights
The slim rear end of the BURGMAN 400 features independent LED rear combination lights with the turn signals at their tips. It’s a sharply sculpted design that expresses elegance and agility.
Slim, lightweight chassis
The BURGMAN 400 features a slim, lightweight body. Its slim, compact exterior components are instantly recognizable as those of a BURGMAN, making the machine easy to handle, particularly on narrow streets and in congested traffic. Strong frame rigidity offers a sense of stability and high cornering performance.
Stop on a dime
The Antilock Brake System (ABS)* monitors wheel speed and matches stopping power to available traction to provide greater confidence and control. The system adopts a new lightweight ABS control unit that reduces weight by 36g over the current model.
*ABS is not designed to shorten the braking distance. ABS cannot prevent wheel skidding caused by braking while cornering. Please drive carefully and do not overly rely on ABS.
Riding smarter
A well-informed rider is a happier and more confident rider.
Multi-function instrumentation
Large, easy-to-read analogue speedometer and tachometer dials flank a digital display showing an odometer, dual trip meters, fuel gauge, average fuel consumption meter, ambient temperature indicator, and clock. The updated BURGMAN 400 instrument cluster can also now display riding range and instant fuel consumption, contributing to more fuel efficient riding.
Traction Control Indicator
A traction control indicator on the speedometer lets the rider know when traction control is activated.
Eco Drive Indicator
Suzuki’s Eco Drive Indicator lights on the tachometer when the machine is ridden in a fuel-efficient manner and may help riders learn techniques to better conserve fuel*.
*The Eco Drive Indicator does not automatically improve fuel economy but may help riders refine their riding efficiency and improve fuel consumption.
Freeze Indicator
The freeze indicator on the tachometer blinks to let the rider know there may be ice on the road.
*The freeze indicator starts blinking when the ambient temperature falls below 3°C. It continues to blink for 30seconds then remains lit until the ambient temperature rises above 5°C.
Winning Performance
From the instant response and powerful acceleration of its 400cm3 DOHC engine, and the exhilarating sound of the tuned intake note, to the nimble handling provided by the link-type rear suspension and 15-inch wheel in the front, the BURGMAN 400 is built to deliver winning performance.
Powerful DOHC 4-valve engine
Updated to meet Euro 5 emissions standards, the 400cm3 liquid-cooled, four-stroke, DOHC, single-cylinder, fuel-injected engine produces well balanced low-to-midrange torque with improved throttle control and offers a sophisticated ride higher in the rev range for easy highway cruising, both of which are thanks to revised engine parts including cylinder heads, pistons, injectors, as well as revised highly optimized combustion.
Catalytic converter
New catalytic converter with honeycomb construction uses a metal catalyst carrier as the base for catalyst retention, and increases the number of catalysts from one to two to further purify exhaust gases.
Traction control system
New traction control system reduces slipping when taking off from a stop with the throttle fully open and lowers wheel spin on slippery or uneven road surfaces to maintain efficient forward movement. Whether riding across wet asphalt, cobblestone streets, traction control offers the rider peace of mind and excellent road-holding ability. The system can be switched on and off with a switch on the right handlebar.
Suzuki Dual Spark Technology
Newly adopted Suzuki Dual Spark Technology increases the number of spark plugs to two to improve combustion efficiency, reduce fuel consumption and achieve more stable power output. These spark plugs offer simultaneous ignition timing fine-tuned for AN400. This combined with new catalytic technology strikes the ideal balance between purifying exhaust gases yet providing strong power output while also increasing engine combustion efficiency. Adjusted ignition timing also contributes to easier engine startup and a more stable idle.
15-inch front wheel
Large 15-inch front wheel presents a bold image and conveys a sense of stability.
Front and rear suspension
The Φ41mm telescopic front forks, which provide a generous 110mm of suspension stroke, pair with a unique link-type monoshock rear suspension with 7-way adjustable spring preload to maximise the balance between comfort and sporty performance with 100mm of wheel travel, and to deliver exceptional handling and maneuverability.
Windscreen
The upswept windscreen design creates a clean and compact look from the front or sides while delivering optimum wind protection for rider comfort and a clear view of the road
Maximising Comfort and Utility
Maximum comfort and practicality of the highest level are important elements in achieving winning performance. With the BURGMAN 400, all these essential elements are firmly in place.
Seat
The stepped dual seat combines a 78.5 mm thick cushion with a slim design to provide luxurious comfort for rider and passenger alike.
Adjustable backrest
The rider’s backrest can be adjusted forward by either 15mm or 30mm to provide optimal support and comfort for riders of various builds on longer outings.
Underseat storage
Even with a slim, compact rear end design, there is still ample storage room under the seat. 42 litres of space allows for the storage of two helmets (one full face and one demi-jet helmet) or an ample amount of riding gear.
* The weight limit for items in the underseat compartment is 10 kg.
* Helmets of certain shapes may not fit in the underseat compartment.
Front compartments
Two front compartments provide 2.8 litres *1 of storage space on the left side and 3.5 litres *2 on the right.
*1 The weight limit for items in the left storage compartment is 0.5 kg.
*2 The weight limit for items in the right storage compartment is 1.5 kg.
12V DC outlet
One compartment houses a 12V DC outlet* for charging a mobile phone or other electronic devices.
* To prevent draining the battery, use the outlet only while the engine is running.
Cut-away footboards
Cut-away footboards do not flare out behind the rider’s foot. They help make it easier for the rider to place their feet firmly on the ground when stopping, contributing to greater confidence and creating a smart line to the design’s curvature.
Rear brake lock system
Located on the same side as the ignition key, the easy-to-operate brake lock lever applies a lock system that acts on the rear brake when parked. The rear brake lock system can prove useful when parking on an incline.
Suzuki Advanced Immobiliser System (SAIS)
The Suzuki Advanced Immobiliser System (SAIS)* uses an electronic identification system in the owner’s key to prevent unauthorized people from starting the engine. A magnetic cover that opens only for the owner’s key protects the ignition switch for added security.
Chain lock gate
A chain lock gate allows the rider to pass a chain lock through the bodywork, around the frame, and then around a pole or other immovable object.
* Chain lock is not standard equipment.
